Did you know that regular health checkups and screenings can save your life? Visiting a family doctor for routine physical exams, immunizations, and personalized treatment plans throughout your lifetime can be considered the best preventive medicine.

Heart Lake Health Centre is a walk-in clinic in Brampton that offers family health checkups, screenings, and access to treatments.

Age-Specific Health Checkups and Screenings

Infants and Children: Pediatric checkups consist of physical examinations and blood tests to check the child’s hearing and vision. The child will also be screened for serious diseases such as tuberculosis, congenital hypothyroidism, cystic fibrosis, severe immunodeficiency, and anemia. Infants are vaccinated against Hepatitis B, DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis), Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate, Inactivated poliovirus, and Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV13).

Adolescents and Young Adults: Routine screenings involve checking the patient’s height, weight, body mass index, vision, hearing, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Patients will also be screened for anemia, tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). For girls, exams to check for cervical abnormalities and the risk for Cervical dysplasia (cervical cancer) are also done on an annual basis.

Adults (20s-50s): Basic screenings and physical examinations are done for both genders to check blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels (diabetes), and suspicious skin lesions. Immunizations may include a yearly flu shot, Tetanus-diphtheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines/booster, Varicella vaccine, Hepatitis B vaccine, and Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.

Adults (50+): Regular repeat screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes are joined with screenings for colorectal cancer, infectious diseases, lung cancer, and osteoporosis. Women will continue to have cervical and breast cancer screenings while men will have prostate screenings.

Seniors (65+): Both men and women will have additional screenings for signs of osteoporosis. Their height and weight measurements will be recorded and they may require a bone density study.
